Mary has spent the past thirty years living and working in central Scotland. With a BA in Recreation and a MA in Sport and Physical Education, Mary’s research interests have always focussed on physical activity and quality of life. She has held important roles in strategy, policy and research in NHS Scotland, Scottish Government, sportscotland and laterly as the Director of Breast Cancer Now, a medical research charity. Mary was a panel member in REF 2014, RAE 2008 and was the UK Ministers’ representative in the EU Platform on Diet, Physical Activity and Health.
Mary’s PhD will be a realist evaluation of the Paths For All Step Count Challenge. This is a workplace physical activity programme that has been running in Scotland since 2011. Her PhD will be supervised by Ailsa Niven (PAHRC) and SCPHRP’s Ruth Jepson and is an ESRC/SGSSS Collaborative Scholarship.
